015 – NO SAFE HARBOUR

A rare moment of respite as we sat waiting within the cargo hold, quietly listening to the hull expand and contract in the solar winds, as our captain negotiated safe passage. It was now our allies greatest challenge to move our unit through protected quadrants, as we had become so sensitive under his teachings, that our presence was now enough to alert forces light years away.

This shot was a struggle to make and taught us both many lessons during its inception. For those of you that create things in the CGI/3D realm you know one of the hardest things to create is heavy detailed scenes with lots of geo and managing light/volume/depth and render times. With his piece we both learned a few valuable yet timeless lessons… less is more and be clever about how you use your resources. For as much as this shot fought us I really enjoy the final outcome and it reminds me to take a step back and think about the approach with objective and clear focused goals.
